Guys, I am having a tough time coming up with a catchy title because this post was going to be a Friday Favorites, but I have no new favorites to report this week. So, I will be posting a few tips and life hacks that I use to make life a little better. I hope you enjoy!
Healthy snacks ideas (I consider this a trick because delicious AND healthy snacks are hard to come by).
Fruit – Did you ever the conversation with your mom where you mentioned that you wanted dessert and she said, “Why don’t you just have some fruit?” I still roll my eyes when someone suggests that (sorry, Mom!). WELL, recently I added dark chocolate chips to my strawberries and it was a game changer. I didn’t melt them (even though that’s an option for someone who isn’t being lazy like I was), I just sprinkled them into the bowl and mixed them in with the fruit. It made me a lot more satisfied than I would have been if I just had strawberries! Plus, it’s healthier than having a bowl of ice cream unless you pour half the bag of chocolate chips in there, which I wouldn’t judge if you did (and yes, ice cream is preferred – but this is a healthy tip).
Boiled eggs – The best part about eggs is that you can boil several of them ahead of time and pull them out of the fridge when you need a snack/breakfast on the go. I have recently been adding feta cheese to my eggs for some flavor, because plain boiled eggs aren’t my jam. You only need a little bit of feta because the flavor is so strong, but it gives the eggs a little bit of a kick. Bonus tip: Make sure that you have some breath mints nearby if this is your snack 😉
Cinnamon – No, please don’t eat straight cinnamon off of a spoon – this isn’t the cinnamon challenge (Elizabeth and Bekah, remember that one time?). I’m talking about adding some to your smoothie/yogurt/coffee/etc. Cinnamon helps make things taste a little sweeter, and it’s a healthy alternative to sugar. Plus, it has a ton of health benefits! If you follow me on instagram you’ll see that I was having sugar free greek yogurt this week, so I added some cinnamon to cut through some of the tartness and it definitely helped!
Yawning all day? Drink more water! Recent studies are showing that one of the causes of yawning is actually dehydration. So, try guzzling some water next time you find yourself yawning and see if it helps!
Can’t justify/afford and Audible subscription? Try the Hoopla app! It’s connected to your library card and it’s FREE. You can check out audio books, e-books and soundtracks on here by “borrowing” them from your library. Note – Not all libraries are in the Hoopla system, but it’s worth a shot!
Wine cooler without all of the calories: Add some La Criox to your wine to have a refreshing summer wine cooler! I put the berry and passion fruit flavors in mine and it’s delicious. Bonus tip: Do you want your wine extra cold without watering it down with ice cubes? Add frozen grapes!
There’s a new phrase I am trying to adopt in my life when it comes to doing a task (mainly around the house): “If it takes less than two minutes, do it now.” But really, loading the dishes into the dishwasher, wiping down the bathroom counter, making the bed or putting away your clothes – none of those take very long, and little by little will add up!
